Upon receipt of your enquiry, one of our friendly sales team members will contact you for a chat about your project.
To ensure we understand your current vision for the property we will ask you a number of questions, including size and usage preferences, whether there are any overlays or easements on your land, and any design ideas you may like to include.
We will issue you with an initial quote for the construction of your new pool where all of your requirements have been considered. If required, an onsite meeting at your property will also be scheduled. Once the quote has been accepted, we then move onto the construction of your brand-new Laguna Pool, and your chosen landscape partner will start the build process.
Building a custom concrete Laguna pool takes around 16 weeks from dig to completion.
After designing the pool, engineering plans must be drawn and permits acquired before any construction can begin.
The pool build process incorporates the following five major milestones as part of your Laguna swimming pool construction timeline. We will step you through each part of the process to ensure full transparency and communication.
The first on-site phase of building your pool takes around 2-3 weeks. Here, we set-out the pool, excavate the site, run the plumbing, fix the steel structure and pour the concrete.
Following the concrete spray, your pool needs to cure for 28 days. During this phase your supervisor will conduct two site visits – firstly to carry out a post-spray check, and then to conduct a pre-tiling check towards the end of the curing process. We also ensure that all temporary fencing is secure, in place, and compliant.
This stage takes around 2-3 weeks to complete, with your site supervisor checking in with the tiling team and conducting quality checks throughout.
This is when we install your pool equipment and solar (if applicable) and advise when your pool fence will need to be installed, as well as complete any landscaping within the pool area. The pool area and fence is then inspected by a registered building surveyor to ensure it’s safe to be filled with water.
The most exciting part of the project – handing over your brand new Laguna pool! Once the pool has been filled, we will begin testing and balancing the pool systems to get them online and working as expected. A final instructional session is then conducted during which we will show you how to use your pool and equipment, ready for your family’s first swim!
As Melbourne’s most trusted pool builders, we’ve prepared a detailed list of commonly asked questions to provide clarity around the pool construction process. However, if you have any additional queries or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our helpful Laguna team.
A Building Permit is a necessary authorisation required to construct a pool on any residential property. Our helpful team will guide you through the process of obtaining this permit from your local council, ensuring all legal requirements are met.
These are detailed drawings created by an engineer that precisely outline how the pool will be constructed. Additionally, they encompass a compliance certificate, which is essential for obtaining the relevant permit, ensuring that the construction of your new pool adheres to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Home Warranty Insurance (HMI) is a compulsory insurance for all registered builders handling projects valued over $12,000. This insurance provides financial protection and guarantees compliance with legal obligations, offering you peace of mind throughout the entirety of your pool project.
Excavation is a critical phase in pool construction, involving the careful digging of the pool hole. This process is conducted with precision to ensure that the pool's dimensions and layout align perfectly with the intended design. Additionally, careful planning and execution of excavation also take into account site access, ensuring that the construction process is efficient and that access is maintained for all necessary equipment and personnel involved in the project.
Cartage refers to the transportation of excavated material (spoil) from the excavation site to a designated disposal site. This process ensures proper waste management throughout the construction phase, contributing to an environmentally responsible and organised construction process.
Tipping Fees are charges imposed by specific organisations for access to their property and the disposal of spoil. It's important to be aware of these potential costs, as they may apply to the transportation and disposal of excavated material during your pool construction project.
Steel fixing is the preparatory process where steel reinforcement is set up according to the engineer's specifications before the concrete application. This crucial step occurs prior to the application of concrete, ensuring the structural integrity of your new pool.
The Concrete Shell is the robust structure of your pool, formed by pneumatically applying 32mpa concrete onto the steel reinforcement. Once dried, it solidifies into the enduring foundation of your new pool, setting the stage for subsequent construction phases.
A skimmer is a large suction point in your pool designed to remove surface water, as well as collect leaves and debris. This vital component directs the remaining water to the filter system for thorough cleaning, contributing to the overall cleanliness and clarity of your pool.
Pool returns are strategically positioned eyelet points through which clean water is circulated back into the pool from the filter system. This circulation process is essential for maintaining proper filtration and ensuring optimal water quality for your pool.
The backwash line is an integral part of the plumbing system responsible for discharging used filter water. Properly connecting the backwash line from the filter to the sewer line, facilitated by a licensed plumber, is imperative for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of your pool system.
The Handover Kit is a comprehensive package containing essential tools for the ongoing maintenance of your new Laguna pool. It comprises a pool pole, vacuum head and hose, water testing kit, pool broom, and a leaf scope. This kit ensures that pool upkeep is convenient and efficient, allowing you to enjoy your pool with ease and confidence.

Laguna has been thoroughly professional and have won our confidence through their thoughtful response to the brief we provided. The initial design documentation was of the highest quality and made it easy for us to fine tune and discuss alternatives. We can’t wait to see the final!”Michael & Bec
“The whole idea of building a pool, we found somewhat daunting. Then you start buying pool magazines thinking it’s going to help you with what you think you may want but it really just confused us more. So after looking at websites of pool builders, we decided on Laguna, and it’s been one of the best decisions we have made. We emailed Laguna, and decided to go with an actual concept and drawings so we could see what the end result was going to look like has been a blessing. Matt has been with us all the whole journey. He visited us at the property, he threw some ideas around and we gave our wish list. Like any wish list you really don’t expect to get them all, but Matt has made them all happen. Matt has made our journey from what we thought was daunting to seamless.”Carlo and Sue
"We were blown away by the 3D concept renders for our new backyard! The designers at Laguna have thought of everything, from entertaining space, appropriate planting, an outdoor fireplace and access from the house, not to mention a seriously impressive pool design that we cannot wait to start building. Thank you Laguna!"Shaun and Claire
"We built our pool with Laguna in 2001. When we started the process with Laguna, Glenn strongly recommended a landscape design for our pool and yard. Glenn assured us that designing a liveable yard is just as important as a design for a beautiful liveable house. I was of the opinion that a “pool is a pool…just dig a hole?” I was wrong, and we were so glad to have the plans complete, not only providing new fresh ideas that had no envisioned, including space for a car, lawn, BBQ and entertaining. The trees in the design were chosen to screen neighbouring houses for privacy in an inner-city suburb, as well as much needed shade in summer. The value that this design has added to the outcome of ‘getting a pool’ has really outweighed the cost. Thanks again Laguna for all the advice and work you put in. We couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful yard.”Laguna Clients
