Nestled in the quaint suburb of Highton lies a whimsical cottage garden and pool, complete with a fire pit and artist’s studio, thoughtfully curated and designed by Laguna.
Seeking an outdoor space that was inviting and full of character, the owners initially approached Laguna to build a standard rectangular pool. However, after working closely with Laguna’s Creative Director, the design evolved to include a rounded end, softening the pool’s appearance, and creating a harmonious flow into the garden and existing alfresco area.
Laguna’s landscape design skilfully incorporated existing garden elements such as bougainvillea, Asian star jasmine and a grapevine around the existing undercover alfresco and studio. Lifestyle features, including a fire pit and pizza oven with circular steps leading to a ‘conversation’ area, transformed the space into a luxurious year-round retreat. For the resident artist, this outdoor space would also serve as a place for his creative pursuits.
The pool itself, 7 x 2.7-metres and tiled with The Pool Tile Company’s CMC402 Luna Mosaic Ceramic tiles, blends with the natural edge of the pool and creates a water colour that is reminiscent of the shallows at the beach. Surrounded by timber decking and Australian hardwood recycled posts, the pool fuses rustic aesthetics and modern luxury. A striking feature of the project is the masonry wall made of recycled red brick, carefully designed to sit alongside the pool. The garden design integrates stepping stones and continuous curves throughout, creating a cohesive aesthetic that ties the entire space together.
This enchanting garden and pool exemplify Laguna’s ability to create landscapes imbued with personality. Reflecting on the project, the clients happily noted, “They understood our brief from the beginning, with the design perfectly tying into our home and the vision we had for a landscape and pool full of heart and soul.”
